BCL demands Joydebpur OC’s removal

Activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of ruling Awami League, have demanded removal of the officer-in-charge (OC) at Joydebpur police station in Gazipur.

OC SM Kamaruzzaman had been harassing innocent locals, including many AL men, by lodging false cases, they alleged at a rally in the district town on Saturday.

Under the banner of Gazipur Sachetan Nagarik Samaj, leaders and activists Chhatra League and Swechchhasebok League organised the rally.

Kamaruzzaman hails from Narail and his mother from Gopalganj, but introduces himself as being from Gopalganj, as he tries to wield influence over people here, they said.

He also misbehaves with people who go to take service at the police station, they added, demanding his immediate removal.

Earlier, a procession paraded main roads in the district town. It was taken out from the district’s Awami League office and also ended there.

OC Kamaruzzaman said, “Those who are demanding my removal are extortionists and terrorists. They might have become outraged at the filing of several sensational cases against them.”
