The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel are waiting at Paanchhari in Dochhari for receiving the body of a BGB member, Naik Mizanur Rahman, who was killed in the fire exchange between BGB and Myanmar's BGP.
BGB Director General Maj Gen Aziz Ahmed told the Dhaka Tribune: “BGB members have gone to Paanchhari to receive the body of Mizanur Rahman in the morning. But, they are yet to get the body.”
Earlier, the Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) authority promised to return the body at 11:30am on Saturday.
Replying to a query, Maj Gen Aziz said: “Further information will be made public after receiving and identifying the body. Locals claimed that the body is of Mizanur, but we are yet to confirm the identity of the body.”
Earlier in the day, the Foreign Ministry summoned Myanmar Ambassador to Dhaka Myo Myint Than for the second time in three days in order to “strongly protest” the unwanted incidents on Bangladesh-Myanmar border.
Bangladesh asked Myanmar to “withdraw BGP troops from the Bangladesh-Myanmar international border (if any BGP troop is deployed ).”
He was also summoned on Thursday and handed over a note verbally, strongly protesting the firing and detaining of a member of the BGB patrolling team along the Bangladesh-Myanmar international border.
The trading fire between BGB and BGP on the border started on May 28.
BGB Nayek Md Mizanur Rahman was killed and two other BGB personnel went missing on May 30 during the firing incidents. Later, the missing BGB members were found in the morning.
