The Information Communications Technology (ICT) Ministry of Thailand temporarily blocked access to the widely used social networking site, Facebook, on Wednesday.
The site was blocked for 30 minutes in the afternoon after a special request by the Thai military. However, the temporary block was later blamed on a technical problem.
An official at the ICT ministry acknowledged that the social networking site had been blocked to stop the blatant criticism of the military due to the coup on May 22.
Since the coup, there have been daily protests against the regime which were organised with the aid of social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.
Though Facebook has been unblocked, the junta has put a ban on gatherings, placed a curfew on the people and even blocked foreign news channels like BBC, Al Jazeera and CNN.
When Facebook was unblocked, a military official attempted to reassure the public that the site had not been blocked and that everything was back to normal.
A spokeswoman for the military blamed the block on a gateway glitch.
