The agitated students of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University(MBSTU) have gone on a rampage on the campus in order to press home their demands.
Witnesses said a group of students vandalised the office of pro-vice-chancellor, proctor and administrative officer in the afternoon to press home various demands, including uninterrupted power supply and setting up a cafeteria.
The demonstrating students also vandalised six vehicles and set fire to furnitures at 2:30pm.
MBSTU Proctor Professor Khedimul Islam said: “Although the university authority has assured them to meet their demands, some unruly students went on the rampage in the afternoon.”
MBSTU Vice-Chancellor Dr Mohammad Alauddin told the Dhaka Tribune: “The work to set up a cafeteria is underway and the construction work will be completed by this December.
The students should not be so desperate,” he added.
On the other hand, the agitated students claimed that the university authority did not show any interest to discuss the matter with the students.
“We have observed peaceful demonstration since the last two days. But, we were compelled to stage a rampage as the authority has failed to assure us,” said a demonstrating student.
