Indefinite transport strike underway in Rajshahi

An indefinite strike is underway in all districts under Rajshahi division from 6am on Sunday to press home its six-point demands, including a ban on the movement of unauthorized vehicles on roads and highways.

Road communication among eight districts ---Bogra, Joypurhat, Naogaon, Natore  Chapainawabganj, Pabna, Rajshahi and Sirajganj -  as well as other parts of the country remained suspended due to the indefinite transport strike.

Despite Rangpur district being kept out of the purview of the strike, there is no roadt communication with the districts of Rajshahi division, as Bogra is on the route which falls within the areas that the strike covers.

Rajshahi Regional committee of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers' Federation has made the announcement on Saturday afternoon.

The federation’s other demands are taking steps to stop realisation of illegal toll by police on roads and highways, issuance of licenses to the transport workers, putting an end to harassment by BRTA authorities in issuing driving licenses, suspension of vehicles like Nosimon, Korimon and Bhatbhoti on highways, carrying goods on these vehicles, stopping of BRTC and double-deck buses at upazilas.
