Karate team finish runner-up

Bangladesh karate team finished as runner-up in the 8th NSKA International Martial Art Karate Championship which concluded in Kathmandu, Nepal yesterday.

Bangladesh bagged five more gold medals on the closing day.

Bangladesh won a total of 12 medals including seven golds, two silvers and three bronzes. Nasima Akter Jui was adjudged the best player of the tournament in women’s section.

On the last day, Munni Khanom clinched gold in women’s single kata event where her compatriot Jui won silver. Munni also grabbed gold in the women’s open kumi event.

Nasima Akter Jui, who earlier won two golds on the opening day, clinched her third gold in the women’s minus 55kg kumi event. Nipasha won bronze in the minus 50kg kumi.

Md Hasan Khan and Md Shamim Osman were the only ones from Bangladesh who won gold in men’s section. Hasan Khan bagged gold in men’s single open kata event while Shamim Osman won gold in men’s single minus 60kg kumi.

Shamim also won silver in open single kumi and bronze in U-18 age group kata category. Bangladesh men’s team also won bronze in men’s team kumi event.
