Shahidul Islam alias Shahid Chairman, father-in-law of slain Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam has denied the involvement of Shamim Osman in Nur Hossain's escape.
While talking with journalists in front of Narayanganj press club on Saturday, Shahid Chairman said: “Shamim Osman was not guilty as he tried to trace Nur's whereabout by talking to him over phone.”
Denying the allegations against Shamim Osman, he further said: “RAB officer Zia threatened me and Shamim Osman over phone at the same time which means Shamim Osman was not involved in the incident.”
Shahid Chairman also questioned the role of law enforcing agency in the murder saying: “Why they did not arrest Nur Hossain during the phone conversation. Instead of arresting Nur, they are accusing Shamim Osman. ”
On the other hand, Nazrul Islam's brother Abdus Salam refused to make any comment over the issue.
Earlier in the day, Shahid Chairman was scheduled to hold a press meet on much-talked leaked phone conversation between Shamim Osman and Nur Hossain, key accused in the seven-murder incident.
However, he canceled the programme in face of peoples fury.
