Germany keen to invest in Bangladesh

Germany is eying investment in various sectors in Bangladesh, particularly setting up a machinery factory and a plant that will produce electricity from garbage and waste, said members of a visiting German delegation yesterday.

The delegation also noted that Germany wants to invest in expansion and upgradation of railway network, in-land water transportation, water treatment and waste management sectors.

These interests were conveyed by the visiting German delegation, headed by Asia-Pacific Business Association (OAV) member Wilhelm G Glasen, who called on Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali at the state guest house Padma.

During the meeting, Glasen said this was a fact finding mission on Bangladesh’s economy and trade and that they will inform the stakeholders in Germany, including political parties, businessmen and media, that the overall situation in Bangladesh is very much favourable for trade and investment.

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali apprised the delegation about the government’s initiatives to bring in foreign direct investment (FDI) through enhancing bilateral cooperation.
