Per capita income now $1,180

The per capita income of Bangladesh is now $1,180, which is $136 higher than earlier.

The Planning Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal revealed the information after the meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).

The minister was quoted by the state-run news agency BSS as saying: "Per capita income in the first 10 months (July- April) of the current fiscal year increased by $136 from the same period of the last fiscal year and it would cross $2,000 by 2021, as the government is targeting to turn Bangladesh into a mid-income country."

In the last fiscal year, per capita income of Bangladesh was $1,044 for July-April period.

Kamal has also informed the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth for the current fiscal year reached 6.12% as per the estimation of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).

ECNEC chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the meeting held at the NEC conference room in the city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Wednesday.

Planning Division Secretary Bhuiyan Shafiqul Islam and Statistics and Informatics Division Secretary M Nojobur Rahman were also present at the briefing.
