At least ten people were killed in road accidents in the Tangail, Dhaka, Gaibandha and Kishoreganj districts, yesterday.
In Tangail, three people were killed and four others were injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in the Mirzapur upazila.
Abu Jobaed, officer-in-charge of Gorai Highway police station, said a Dhaka-bound chicken-laden bus collided head-on with another bus coming from the opposite direction, leaving Abdul Alek Mia, 22, Saiful Islam, 40, and Shukur Ali, 35, from the Bogra and Jaypurhat districts, dead on the spot.
In Savar, Dhaka, four ceramic workers of the Protick Ceramic Factory were killed and 20 others were injured when the bus they were on, slammed into a tree on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in the Dhamrai upazila.
Officer-in-charge of Dhamrai police station Abdur Rashid said the bus carrying the ceramic factory workers drove into a roadside tree in the Dautia area near the factory at around 7:45am because the driver lost control over the steering, leaving Jahanara, 26, and Rahim, 30, dead on the spot and 22 others injured.
Among the injured, Rawshanara, 28, and Archana Rani, 35, were in critical conditions and were rushed to the Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar, where the doctors declared them dead. The rest were admitted to different hospitals.
After police recovered the bodies, Rahim’s family members took his body away for burial, not allowing a post-mortem to be done.
In Gaibandha, two people were killed in an accident in the Panthapara area of the Gobindaganj upazila when a truck collided with a bus on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway.
One of the deceased remains unidentified. The other was Abu Hanif, 48, from the Kurigram district.
On receiving this information, police recovered the bodies and sent them to a hospital morgue.
In Kishoreganj, a minor boy, Roni, 7, who was the son of Saiful Islam from the Moddopara village, was killed in an accident in the Katiadi upazila.
According to police and local sources, the accident took place on the Kishoreganj- Bhairab highway at around 9:30am when a Bhairab bound bus leaving from Kishoreganj hit Roni while he was crossing the road, leaving him dead on the spot.
Later, the locals blocked the highway for an hour.
On receiving this information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Md Hedayatul Islam, officer-in-charge of Katiadi police station said the body was sent to the Kishoreganj Adhunik Sadar Hospital morgue.
