Six mothers have been honoured with Ratnagarbha (mother of talents) awards in Jessore, marking the International Mothers’ Day on May 11.
According to a press release, Usha Rani Bhattacharya (posthumous), Rebeka Sultana, Fauzia Begum Kabita, Ameenah Ahmed, Ameena Begum, and Alhajj Fatema Jalal were each honoured with a certificate and a sash (Uttoriyo) during the award-giving ceremony which was held under the management of the Jessore Municipality and arranged by “Shekor,” a cultural organisation.
Notable Nazrul singer Fatema Tuz Zohra attended the ceremony, which held at the Town Hall Field, as the chief guest, and Mayor Maruful Islam Maruf chaired the event.
Principal Sheikh Rabiul Alam of the Jessore Education Board Model School and College, former MP Pijush Kanti Bhattachariya and Mobinul Islam Mobin, editor of the Dainik Gramer Kagoj, a local daily, attended as special guests.
After the award-giving ceremony there was a cultural function where Ratnagarbha award winner Ameenah Ahmed sang two songs –“Ekbaar Gaal Bhora Maa Daake,” and a song by Dwijendra Lal Roy.
Papia Ghosh, Doly Rahman, Sajib Pal, Tauhidul Islam, and Selim Hossain were among those who performed at the cultural function.
