A five-member probe committee headed by a professor of Osmani Medical College Hospital has been formed to look into the incident that led nursing students to boycott classes and go on demonstration.
Assistant Director of OMCH Dr Tanmay Bhattacharia has told about the forming of the probe body to the Dhaka Tribune.
Nursing students have called an indefinite strike demanding punishment to the intern doctors who assaulted one nursing student early Monday.
Meanwhile, the intern doctors also brought out a procession on the campus around 4:30pm.
An intern doctor Imtiaz said: “The nurses have brought one-sided allegation, we will make our statement in a press conference at 7pm.”
Following an altercation between intern doctor Tofayel Ahmed and Nursing student Pralaya around 12:30am on Monday, a group of intern doctors allegedly assaulted the nursing student.
When Nursing students came to know of the incident, they took to the street boycotting classes and laid a blockade on the adjacent road.
Later, they brought out procession inside the campus demanding punishment against those who assaulted the Nursing student.
Witnesses said around two hundred students were agitating outside the gate. However, the police pushed them inside. Later, they were demonstrating in front of gate no 1.
Sajidul Islam, an agitating Nursing student said they would keep the protest on until proper action is taken.
Dr Tanmay Bhattacharya, assistant director of the hospital said the activities of the hospital remained normal despite agitation of the nursing students.
