A Bagerhat court has sentenced four persons to death and six others to life-term imprisonment for killing a fish trader in the Sundarban area under the Mongla upazila of the district in 1998.
District and session Judge SM Solaiman pronounced the verdict on Sunday afternoon. The court also fined the six persons Tk20, 000 each. They will have to suffer another two years of rigorous imprisonment in default to pay the fine. The convicts receiving the death penalty are Atahar Hossain alias Paran Babu, ex UP chairman of Dema union under Sadar upazila, Babul Gazi and Kalam of the same area and Bachchu of Ranjoy village under Rampal upazila of the district. The six other convicts are Sahidul, Esharat, Farhad, Faruk and Sanu of Dema union under Sadar upazila and Hakim Sheikh of Telikhali village under Rampal upazila.
