Medical services at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, Barisal have been halted for three hours following a clash between intern doctors and attendants of a patient on Sunday morning.
Six, including two doctors were injured in the clash. Medical services were hampered for more than three hours and resumed after 12:30pm.
Witnesses said Rezaul Karim, 31, a rental motorcycle driver of Patuakhali was admitted with fractures on his leg on May 15.
His condition was improving till May 17. However, suddenly he died at the hospital at 9:20am on Sunday.
When relatives asked the on-duty doctors about the reason of the death and alleged for negligence in treatment, doctors assaulted them, said Mahmud al Azad, one of the attendant of the expired patient.
However, the doctors denied the allegation and claimed that they had briefed attendants over the patient's condition.
Later, both doctors and attendants locked into altercation which trigged a clash.
Dr Qamrul Islam Selim, director of SBMCH, said the situation was under control and legal action would be taken after primary investigation of the incident.
Mahmud Hossain, assistant commissioner of Barisal Metropolitan Police, said police rushed to the spot and controlled the situation.
Later, police handed over the body to the relatives.
Additional police forces were deployed at the Sher-e-Bangla Medical College campus area.
No case was filed in this connection till filing the report at 3:50pm, the police officer said.
