N'ganj killing: IO show-caused

A Naraynganj court on Sunday has ordered the Investigation Officer of the seven-murder in Narayanganj to explain why the two former RAB officials were not shown arrested in the seven-murder case.

Senior Judicial Magistrate KM Muhiuddin has sought the explanation from IO Mamunur Rashid Mandal following petition filed by Chandan Kumar's son-in-law at around 11:45pm.

The court also asked Mamunur Rashid Mandal to reply to the show-cause notice within four days.

Narayanganj Zilla Lawyers Council President Shakhawat Hossain said: “The court show-caused him as the RAB officials were shown arrested under section 54 instead of the murder case.”

The three ex-RAB officials Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad and Major Arif Hossain were arrested on Saturday from Dhaka Cantonment area for their alleged involvement in the abduction and murder of seven people in Narayanganj.

Narayanganj City Corporation panel mayor Nazrul Islam and lawyer Chandan Sarkar along with five others were killed and their bodies were dumped into River Shitalakkhya after they were abducted on April 27.

The family members of Nazrul alleged that RAB 11 Commanding Officer Lt Col Tareq Sayeed Mohammad and two other RAB 11 officials – Major Arif Hossain and Lt Commander SM Masud Rana – killed all the seven persons for Tk6 crore.

Earlier, on April 28 the authorities concerned had withdrawn all the three RAB-11 officials along with the Narayanganj superintendent of police and the deputy commissioner.

Following the allegations, the AFD sent Lt Col Tareq Sayeed Mohammad and Major Rana on premature retirement from the Army and Lt Commander SM Masud Rana on forced retirement from the Navy.
