Police rescued a businessman after 12 hours of abduction from a jungle near Hartakitala area in Kaliakoir upazila of Gazipur on Saturday night.
The rescued businessman was identified as Abdullah Al Kaiser, 36, a contractor and son of Abdullah Al Kafi, hailed from Radhakanai village of Mymensingh district.
The law enforcers also detained five persons while collecting ransom from the victim's wife.
The detainees are Shamon Mia, 25, Syed Munna Rizvi, 21, Arong Khan, 23, Habibur Rahman, 23, and Syed Rahat Hossain, 23, of Rasulpur area.
Police and victim's family members said: “Shamon along with four others abducted Kaiser from near his house and kept him tied-up in a jungle in Rasulpur area. They demanded Tk3 lakh as ransom from Tajnuba, victim's wife, over phone.”
Kaliakoir police station Sub-Inspector Rajib Khan said: “Upon receiving information from Tajnuba, police rushed to Chandra and arrested Shamon while collecting ransom from Tajnuba.”
“Based on his information, we rescued Kaiser from the jungle and arrested four others involved in the abduction from the area at around 8pm.”
Tajnuba has filed a case in this connection with Kaliakoir police station.
