Grenade blast injures 9 army men

At least nine members of Bangladesh Army were injured in a grenade explosion during a training exercise at Kholahati Shaheed Mahbub Cantonment in Rangpur's Parbatipur upazila yesterday.

Directorate of Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) sources said four of them, with critical conditions, were flown to Combined Military Hospital by helicopter. The five others sustained minor injuries.

They were injured as a grenade accidentally went off, officials said. They, however, could not provide identities of the injured.

According to other sources, the injured are warrant officers Ketabul Islam and Mohammad Ali, corporals Abdul Mannan and Golam Rasul, sergeants Fazlul Haque and Rowshan Ali, and Sepoys Bikash Chandra Roy, Abdur Rahman and Zahir. All of them were members of 34 East Bengal Regiment.
