Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced a pay hike for the the personnel of the defence intelligence unit - Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI).
All staff of the DGFI will receive 30% special allowances, the premier announced at a programme on Wednesday morning. She also inaugurated the new monogram for DGFI.
“All the previous governments have used this institution for power,” Hasina said. “They tarnished the image of the DGFI.”
“This institution was exploited after 2001,” she said indicating the BNP rule. “However, our government has restored the image of DGFI after we came to power in 2009.”
The premier thanked the military agency for providing intelligence ahead of the situation in Bangladesh regarding war crimes trial and sabotages.
“We do not want war. But, the armed forces must be prepared to defend the country against threats,” she said indicating to the armed forces.
“The fate of this country has been toyed with in the past. Such shall be no more.”
The programme was held at the Darbar Hall of the DGFI. The institution's Director General Maj Gen Akbar Hossain and premier's security advisor were present.
