The authority of Shikder Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday has suspended Dr Safiul Azam who allegedly beat Shishir Morol, a special correspondent of the Bangla national daily Prothom Alo on Tuesday.
Major General (retd) Bijoy Kumar, principal of the college, has told the Dhaka Tribune.
A three member probe body has been formed to inquire into the assault incident, he said.
On Tuesday, Prothom Alo Correspondent Shishi Morol went to ZA Sikder Women's Medical College Hospital to investigate an allegation against Dr Shafiul Azam.
But Morol came under attack by Shafiul and his associates. They confined him for two hours and half and beat him severely.
Shafiul is an assistant professor at Chittagong Medical College Hospital, but he had been working fulltime at ZA Sikder Women's Medical College Hospital without taking leave from CMCH.
