At least two passengers of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw were killed and another one was injured critically in a road accident on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Trishal upazila on Tuesday noon.
The victims were identified as Rafiqul Islam, a teacher of Konabari Alim Madrasa, and Sirajul Islam, 70, a grocery shop owner, both hailed from Horirampur in Trishal.
Md. Kamrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Trishal police station, has told the Dhaka Tribune.
The accident took place when a Trishal bound CNG-run auto-rickshaw from Horirampur hit the railing of Sutia Bridge as the driver of the vehicle lost control over its steering, killing Rafiqul on the spot and injuring two others around 1pm, he said.
Of the injured, Sirajul and Suruj Ali, 35, were taken to Trishal Upazila Health Complex where the on duty doctors declared Sirajul dead.
Suraj Ali was referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) for better treatment.
Police seized the auto-rickshaw but its driver managed to flee the scene.
A case was lodged in this connection.
