Mahesh Bhatt turns actor for Siddhartha

One’s never too old to make an acting debut. Mahesh Bhatt is making his at 64 in a movie titled “Siddhartha,” which tells the story of a man’s disillusionment with the world and his search for inner peace.

The movie has actor Shivam Bhargav playing the titular role. His ladylove is played by Shazahn Padamsee. Shivam plays a character that leads a life of indulgence and debauchery before renouncing it to look for salvation in the hills of Manali. That’s where he meets the Buddhist Lama, played by Mahesh Bhatt. The Lama helps Shivam connect with his inner Buddha.

“Siddhartha” is not a rip-off of Nobel winning author Hermann Hesse’s sublime book by the same name.

Mahesh Bhatt shared the photos of his monk look on Twitter and wrote: “Stepping into the frame of silence. Mukul Misra’s ‘Siddhartha.’”

The writer-filmmaker says he decided to play the role of Lama because he could relate to the character.

On a philosophical note, he added: “Life is pain! Do not ask why it is so? It is so!”
