A police constable died and his two colleagues were critically injured after they were crushed by falling under the wheels of a truck in Gazipur’s Joydebpur upazila in the early hours, yesterday.
The deceased was Ismail Hossain, 20, son of Dil Mohammad of Anantamusa village at Narayanganj’s Sonargaon upazila, said Sub-Inspector Ekramul Haq, who is in charge of Bhogra police outpost.
Two speeding trucks collided head on at Bhogra Bypass Crossing on Dhaka-Mymensing highway around 2am, when one truck veered into the central reservation and hit the constables standing there, he said.
They were admitted to Gazipur General Hospital; but their conditions began to deteriorate rather than improve, said Ekramul.
The trio was then shifted to the Combined Military Hospital, where Ismail was declared dead soon afterwards, he said, adding that they had seized both the trucks and detaining one of its helpers.
A case has been filed.
