HC summons editor, publisher, writer of Al-Ihsan

The High Court has summoned the editor, the publisher and a columnist of the Daily Al-Ihsan, a newspaper preaches the ideology of Rajarbagh “Pir,” for publishing a "derogatory" column about an HC rule.

An HC bench comprising of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain issued the order on Monday afternoon.

The court, on its own motion, also issued rule asking why the declaration of the newspaper should not be cancelled.

Besides, it asked the trio to explain by May 25 why they should be held responsible for committing contempt of court.

The columnist in his article, wrote that “ The Muslims of the country were shocked as HC Judges issued rule asking why issuing an advertisement over a Jahangirnagar University employee's conversion to Islam should not be declared illegal.”

The writer stated “Why the judges should not be declared unbelievers.”

Earlier on April 25, JU's public relation office published an advertisement on becoming muslim of a fourth class employee of the office, along with his family members.

Later on April 28, Bangla daily the Janakantha published a report saying that the JU authorities had apologised to the nation for the advertisement.

On April 30, following the report, the HC issued a suo moto rule asking the university authorities to explain why they should not be directed to take legal action against the PRO director for the advertisement.

JUVC, syndicate, registrar and PRO director have been made respondents to the rule and asked to explain by May 15.
