Bangladesh is likely to sign a deal regarding export of internet bandwidth to the Seven Sisters in India on Monday, authorities have hinted.
“A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) might be inked tomorrow,” Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCCL) Managing Director Monowar Hossain said.
“We have already forwarded them a draft of the deal,” he added after two meetings on Monday.
The comments were made after two separate meetings between BSCCL and Indian BSNL over export of 10Gbps bandwidth to the northeastern states of India.
A four-member delegation of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) held the meetings at BSCCL office and the division of post and telecommunications.
BSNL Chief General Manager DP Singh said they initially sought 10Gbps bandwidth from Bangladesh. “We will consider further import if necessary.”
Earlier in February, the government agreed to export half of Bangladesh's Internet bandwidth citing reasons that the country can hardly utilise 16% of its total bandwidth.
The BSCCL authorities had said the Seven Sisters, Arunachal, Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Shilong, have great demand for bandwidth.
