Clinic catches fire in Chittagong

A fire has broken out at a private clinic in the city's Probortok Mor area on Saturday morning.

Witnesses said the fire originated at the eighth floor of 10-storied CSCR clinic around 8:20am. But, the reason behind the fire could not be known immediately.

Jasim Uddin, deputy assistant director of Chittagong Fire Service and Civil Defence, said : “A total of 13 firefighting units have worked to douse the blaze and they became successful to put it out at 9:30am.

We are suspecting that the fire originated from electric short circuits. A three-member probe body has been formed to investigate the incident,"he added.

The clinic authority said some patients became sick due to heavy smoke.

Civil Surgeon Sarfaraz Babul said: "The administration has halted all types of activities of the clinic and shifted the patients to other city clinics and hospitals. The embargo will be continued till further order.

We have also formed a three-members probe committee headed by Deputy Civil Surgeon Rafiq Uddin in this regard and the committee has been asked to submit a probe report within three days," he added.
