A fire broke out at BS Bhaban, a multi-storied commercial building on Elephant Road in the city on Thursday afternoon.
The fire originated on the 4th floor of the six-storied building around 1:25pm and gutted desktops, laptops and other computer accessories kept there, assistant director of Fire Brigade and Civil Defence Rafiqul Islam said.
Six fire fighting units rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control at around 2:30pm after one hour of hectic efforts, he said.
The fire might have originated from an electric short circuit and the extent of damage caused by the fire could not be known immediately, Rafiqul Islam said.
