‘Seven abductees strangled’

The seven people including Ward Councillor Nazrul Islam, lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar and five others abducted and killed in Narayanganj were strangled by professional killers, the autopsy report said.

“The autopsy report of 7 bodies was prepared between the night of April 30 and the next morning .They were killed about 48-72 hours before the time of autopsy,” Narayanganj Civil Surgeon Dulal Chandra Chowdhury said yesterday after receiving the autopsy report.

Dr Md Asauzaman Miah, resident medical officer of Narayanganj General Hospital and chief of the post-mortem board, submitted the report to the civil surgeon at the latter’s office around 11am.

Dulal Chandra Chowdhury said: “The abducted seven people were choked to death before they were hit in the backs of their heads. The killers dug holes under the navel of each of the bodies to prevent the corpses from floating.”

“All the victims were killed in the same way which proved that the killers are trained and professionals,” he added.

The seven bodies, including that of the missing ward councillor and the lawyer, surfaced in the Shitalakhya river on April 30. However, no one could be arrested over the incident until now.

The prime accused in the abduction and murder of the seven is Awami Leauge leader and a Ward Councillor Nur Hossain who has been on the run after the abductions.

On the other hand, the father-in-law of Councillor Nazrul Islam raised allegations that elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) carried out the murders in exchange for Tk6 crore.

A probe committee has been formed to investigate his claim.

Three RAB officials – Lt Col Tarek Sayeed Mohammad, Major Arif Hossain and naval officer Lt Commander MM Rana – accused of taking bribes for the multiple murders in Narayanganj have been discharged of duty.
