A recently married couple, had been fighting for their lives at Chittagong Medical College Hospital, from incurring severe burns from a fire at their house yesterday
Mohammad Nadim, an Islami Bank official, and Aklima Akter, a school teacher, got married just five months back and a rented an apartment in the port city’s Masjid Colony at Masterpool Khejurtala.
A fire at their residence yesterday not only burnt both of them, but also destroyed their beautiful dreams for their future.
At around 8am yesterday, Aklima caught a fire while preparing breakfast. Hearing her cries for help, Nadim rushed to save her, but also got burnt himself while trying to save her life.
With 98% burns on her body, Aklima was found panting at the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of the CMCH. While Nadim also admitted at the same unit, but his condition are not as critical las Aklima’s, said the on-duty doctors.
The husband said he was in bed and rushed to the kitchen when he heard Aklima screaming.
Dr Mishma Islam of the burn unit told the Dhaka Tribune that Aklima’s condition was very critical, and added that the husband incurred 20% burns in his body.
