Autopsy: N'ganj victims were strangled, then gored

The seven people abducted and killed in Narayanganj, including local Ward Counsillor Nazrul Islam and lawyer Chandan Kumar, were strangled to death by professionals, autopsy report suggest.

“They were killed about 48-72 hours before the time of autopsy,” Narayanganj Civil Surgeon Dulal Chandra Chowdhury said on Wednesday after receiving the autopsy report.

“The seven people were strangled to death and hit behind their heads,” he added. “There were burn marks on their bodies. The killers were skilled and professionals.”

“They were killed and then their abdomens were gored,” he added.

Earlier on Tuesday, Narayanganj General Hospital Residential Medical Officer Asaduzzaman also gave a similar report.

The seven bodies, including that of the missing ward counsillor and the lawyer, surfaced in the Shitalakhya river on April 30. However, no one could be arrested over the incident until now.

The prime accused in the abduction and murder of the seven is Awami Leauge leader and a Ward Councillor Nur Hossain, who fled from within the vigilance net of the law enforcers.

On the other hand, the father in-law of Councillor Nazrul Islam raised allegations that elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) carried out the murders in exchange of Tk 60m.

A probe committee has been formed to investigate into this claim.
