The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Ministry has recommended exemplary punishment to the responsible in the abductions and killings of seven people in Narayanganj.
The recommendation was made at a meeting of the standing committee held at the National Parliament building with committee Chairman Tipu Munshi in the chair on Tuesday, said a PID handout.
According to the handout, the committee recommended taking actions following investigation into the allegation of the involvement of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the abductions and killings in Narayanganj.
The committee further said those, who were involved in the incident, even if they were ruling party men or members of any law enforcement agency, must be tried.
The meeting also disclosed that they were working as per the directives issued by the High Court regarding the abductions and killings.
Committee members State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan, M Mozammel Hossain, Shamsul Haq Tuku, M Faridul Haq Khan, Abul Kamal Azad, Abu Sayed Al Mahmud Swapan and Kamrunnahar Chowdhury attended the meeting.
Besides, Secretary of home ministry, Inspector General of Police, Director General of RAB and senior officials concerned were present at the meeting.
Regarding the issue, the RAB director general told the meeting that the anti-crime force is embarrassed following the allegations raised against it.
Mentioning that RAB wanted exemplary punishment to anyone found involved in it, he said this would create crisis of confidence among the RAB members.
