NCC councillors call 48-hr strike

The Narayanganj City Corporation councillors has called a 48-hour strike from Sunday protesting the abduction and killing of its panel mayor Nazrul Islam and six others.

The decision has come from a councillors’ meeting chaired by Panel Mayor-1 Syeed Obaidullah on Saturday afternoon

After the meeting, Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) Councillor Kamrul Hasan Munna informed the Dhaka Tribune about the decision reached in the meeting.

He said: “The city corporation will close all the activities except health and fire services for 48-hours starting from Sunday protesting recent abductions and killings of seven people including NCC Panel Mayor Nazrul Islam.”

“We want the immediate arrest of the abductors and killers,” he said.

“It is utterly disappointing as the responsible authority has been showing indifferences towards the issue,” he added.

All NCC board councillors were present in the meeting.
