Former national players from different sport urged Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club to withdraw the case filed against four eminent personalities in a press conference held at the WVA auditorium yesterday.
The programme conducted by former national cricket captain Gazi Ashraf Lipu saw the presence of national award winners Golam Sarwar Tipu, Hasanuzzman Khan Bablu, former national cricketers ASM Faruque, Shafiqul Haque Heera, former national football stars Imtiaz Sultyan Johnny, Rumman bil Wali Sabbir, former national cricket coach Jalal Ahmed Chowdhury, swimmer Laila Nur, judoka Quamrunnahjar Hiru and others.
The speakers said Dhaka South City Corporation has opened the ground for all and it proves the case against the four eminent people is erroneous. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club general secretary Arifur Rahman filed a case against four eminent environmentalists and sports organisers on April 21 for entering the playground that day.
The accused included former IAB president Mubasshar Hussein, BAPA joint secretary Iqbal Habib, architect Salma A Shafi and national sports award winner Kamrunnahar Dana – all of whom are Dhanmondi residents.
