Body to probe felling of railway trees in Ctg

The Bangladesh Railway authority has formed a three-member committee to investigate the indiscriminate cutting down of century-old trees on land belonging to Bangladesh Railway.

Bangladesh Railway eastern zone Divisional Engineer 2 Tarun Kanti Bala was made the convener of the committee.

Other members of the committee are Divisional Estate Officer Mohammad Jashim Uddin and commandant of Railway Police Abdur Razzak.

The committee has been asked to submit its report within the quickest possible time.

Earlier, Deputy Assistant Engineer of Bangladesh Railway eastern zone Ameer Hossain Khan filed a case with city's Khulshi police station on Saturday midnight in this connection accusing Arman, Sultan, Sabuj and Sohel.

Miscreants in last two days indiscriminately cut down at least 30 century-old trees from Ambagan Railway Canteen Road to Pahartali police outpost on the land of the BR.

Several hundred century-old trees in the Central Railway Building area are regarded as oxygen sanctuary for the city dwellers.
