Two Yaba traders killed in ‘gunfight’ with RAB

Two alleged Yaba traders have been killed during a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Nature Park area under Teknaf  upazila of Cox’s Bazar early Sunday.

The deceased are Zaker Hossain Jaku, 40, son of late Abedin Saodagar, of Kaykay para under Teknaf municipality and Md Faridul Alam, 35, son of Shamsul Alam, of Naitong para area of the upazila.

Teknaf police station Officer-in-Charge Ranjit Kumar Barua has confirmed about the deaths to the Dhaka Tribune.

Zaker was enlisted in the list of Yaba traders of the Home Ministry and Faridul was Zaker’s close aide, he said.

Teknaf BGB Commander Lt Col Abuzar Al Zahid said: “The gunfight took place between a group of Yaba traders and the law enforcers  of near Nature Park area of Damdamia around 4am that left Jaku and Faridul dead on the spot.”  

RAB and BGB members recovered 2 LGs, one pipe gun, 10 rounds of bullets,  2000 Yaba tablets from the spot after the gunfight, RAB 7 Commander Major Rashed said.  

Five alleged Yaba traders were killed in “gunfight” with the law enforcers in Teknaf in the last one month.
