At least 22 shanties have been gutted in a devastating fire at Char Dakatia village under Dewanganj upazila of the district on Thursday.
Locals said the fire has broken out at the kitchen of one Hannan in the afternoon after the gas cylinder was exploded.
The fire soon engulfed the entire area and gutted 22 shanties. Later,locals doused the blaze in the evening.
Jamalpur fire Service Inspector Md Jakir Hossain said the firefighters could not reach the spot as it was a remote village.
The extent of the damage has been estimated at Tk3,000,000 by Chikagachhi union Chairman Mamtaj Uddin.
He said: “The fire gutted mounds of crops that were stored inside those shanties. Besides,it has gutted Tk500,000 cash money of businessman Hafizur.”
No report of injuries has been filed.
