Convicted BDR mutineer dies in Gazipur

A member of Bangladesh Rifles (now Border Guard Bangladesh), who was sentenced to a three-year jail in the BDR mutiny case, died at Gazipur Sadar Hospital on Wednesday morning.

The deceased is Anwar Hossain, son of Abdul Khalek of Pirizali village in Gazipur. He was a BDR soldier and also a clerk.

Kashimpur prison 1 Jailer Amzad Hossain said: “He was admitted to Kashimpur prison hospital when he fell sick at the jail in the morning.”

Later, Anwar was shifted to Gazipur Sadar Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead on arrival.

Hospital’s resident doctor Tapan Kanti Sarker said he was already dead when he was brought to the hospital.

Anwar was convicted in the case filed for BDR mutiny at the then BDR headquarters at Peelkhana in 2009 .
