A devastating fire broke out at a factory of Otobi Furniture located at Savar upazila on Tuesday night.
No immediate reports of casualty could be obtained.
The fire was tamed around 3am, reported a private television station quoting fire officials on the spot.
The loss would be no less than 1000 crore, an official at the factory told a private television station.
Witnesses said the fire originated from an unknown source and it soon engulfed the factory. Fire Service and Civil Defense headquarters told the Dhaka Tribune that the fire erupted around 10pm, adding that eight fire fighting units were at scene trying to douse the flame.
Television footages showed the fire was on till the midnight at the Otobi factory in Savar. 13 units of the fire service was fighting on to douse the fire.
The fire service men said fire fighting was crucial as there was no waterbody nearby. Around 10 men, of the workers and fire service personnel, had minor injuries while trying to control the fire.
Some officials of the factory alleged that fire fighters delayed around two hours to reach the spot, which the fire service officials denied.
Otobi, is a prominent furniture brand in Bangladesh, established in 1975, that quickly grew to become one of Bangladesh's top exported brands, with sales primarily to India and the South East Asian countries.
