Law for doctors, patients soon

A law would see the light of day soon for the protection of doctors and patients, Health Minister Mohammad Nasim has said on Tuesday.

The minister requested the doctors not to go on strike for the sake of the suffering patients while speaking at a press briefing in the capital.

The request came in wake of the striking doctors at Rajshahi medical college and other hospitals after a recent incidents of unrest.

“We have formed two probe committees in this regard. Those responsible will be brought to book. So, please withdraw your strike,” he said.

“We will soon make a law so that such incidents do not take place in the future. We are already working on the draft of the law,” he added.

On Sunday, a clash between doctors of RMCH and journalists left about 10 media-persons and three doctors injured at the hospital premises.

Later, the intern doctors went on strike demanding unconditional apology from the journalists.

Doctors at Birdem Hospital and Sir Salimullah Medical College, popularly known as Mitford hospital, also went on strike after clashes with patients.
