Foreign investors continue to shy away from bourses

Foreign investors continued to shy away from injecting fresh funds on stocks for the second consecutive months.

Their investment fell 20% in March from the previous month as they bought stocks worth Tk205.27 crore and sold Tk108.31 crore during the period, according to the Dhaka Stock Exchange.

However, foreign investment in the stock market makes up only 1% of the total DSE investment, which is lowest in the South Asia region.

High sale figure of Tk205.27 crore in February clearly showed that the foreign investors were on profit taking mood from their buying binge in January when their portfolio investment recorded more than 300% higher, said an equity analyst.

“So, it can be said that they are still in bullish about the market and drop in the growth of fresh fund might be due to a lot of different reasons,” said Shahidul Islam, chief executive officer of VIPB Asset Management Company Limited.
