State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan said adequate security measures would be taken for the celebration of Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla calendar, on April 14 and people from all walks of life would be able to take part in the festivities peacefully.
The state minister addressed reporters after a meeting with high law enforcement officials at the Home Ministry yesterday, where he told them about the decision.
CQK Mustaq Ahmed, senior secretary at the Home Ministry, AKM Shahidul Hoque, additional IGP, and Major General Aziz Ahmed, director-general of Border Guard Bangladesh, were present, among others.
The state minister said: “I hope people will enjoy Pahela Baishakh like every year, and the intelligence agencies will stay alert to foil violent incidents.”
Restriction on vehicular movement would be imposed on a number of roads in the capital on the day, and check posts would be set up in strategic points to search bags and suspicious people as preventive measures, the state minister added.
When asked about the progress in the investigation of the 2001
Ramna Batamul bomb blast, the state minister said, “We are trying to make progress.”
An official attending the meeting said Hatirjheel would come under security as people would go there on the day.
Like the capital, security measures will be taken across the country as well.
Intelligence agencies across the country have been instructed to keep vigilance.
