A woman, who suffered burn injuries from the explosion of a gas cylinder in the capital’s Kamrangirchar area, has succumbed to her injuries on Saturday evening.
Aklima Begum, 50, wife of Abdul Jobbar, died while undergoing treatment at the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) around 6pm, Dr Mohammad Adnan of the unit told the Dhaka Tribune.
She was suffering from 65% burn injury that also affected her lungs, says Dr Adnan.
The condition of two other victims Joli Akhter, 28, daughter of Aklima, and her 2-year-old grandson Alif were stated to be critical and undergoing treatment at Intensive Care Unit with 85% and 90% burn injury, he said.
Ramjan Ali, the husband of injured Joli, said the explosion of the gas cylinder might have taken place at around 11:30am due to a leakage at the pipeline between the cylinder and the burner in their house.
A mechanic by profession, Ramjan said they had been using the gas cylinder due to disruptions in the gas supply by Titas Gas.
Sheikh Mohosin Alam, officer-in-charge of Kamrangirchar police station, told the Dhaka Tribune that they have learned about the incident that broke out from gas cylinder explosion in the kitchen.
