Golam Mustafa Shimul’s debut feature film Onukrosh will be released today in Binaka cinema hall. Besides, the film will have its World TV Premiere on the same day on Channel i at 3:05pm.
Shimul, who has directed about 100 TV plays before, finally emerges as a filmmaker this time with the film that revolves around many political questions which are now at burning state. According to Shimul, the canvas of the film encompasses the Liberation War in 1971 till the current time. It is about a retired army officer (played by Pijush Bandyopadhyay) of Pakistan who comes to Bangladesh in search of his “son” (war child).
Raiz Mahmood Jewel plays the role of the war child whose mother was tortured and raped by the army officer. At the final phase of the war, the army officer became severely injured and incapable of fathering a child. So, in his old age he comes to Bangladesh to find his “only child.”
“It’s a critical story. The word Onukrosh means forgiveness. Here the army officer seeks forgiveness to the war child and begs to be accepted as his father. The whole story gives the answer why such crime cannot be forgiven. Thus the film goes in depth to the issues of trial of the war criminals, loopholes in our political system and many more,” said Shimul.
