Five organisations, including the Dhaka Tribune, and an individual are going to be awarded with the Better Bangladesh Foundation Award 2014 today for their contribution in creating a positive image of the country.
Yesterday at a press conference, Better Bangladesh Foundation (BBF) announced to hold the award giving ceremony today at 3pm in the capital’s Gulshan Club.
Masud A Khan, founding chairman of BBF said: “For the first time, we are giving away the awards to selected entities in order to promote the culture of our country to the world in a positive light through media.”
“Foreign countries have a negative perception about Bangladesh, that we are a poor and disaster prone nation. But there are many things that should be appreciated. The award will work as an inspiration for the organisations who had played their roles in the development and branding of the country,” he added.
Among a lot of other English dailies, the Dhaka Tribune was chosen for carrying the name of the capital and for playing a remarkable role in branding a positive image of the country both in home and abroad, said the chairman of BBF.
The other awardees are Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association for its contribution in the garment sector, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for contribution in the field of international relations, Bangladesh Armed Forces for serving in the United Nations Peace Support Operations and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for its role during the Liberation War and Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali for his role during the Liberation War.
Editor of Dhaka Tribune Zafar Sobhan, Head of Delegation Bangladesh of ICRC Christine Cipolla, President of BGMEA Md Atiqul Islam, and Director General (Operations and Planning) of Armed Forces Division Brig Gen Abu Sayeed Khan, ndc, psc will receive the awards on behalf of their respective organisations.
Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali will be the chief guest while Saida Muna Tasneem, director general of the United Nations and Human Rights wing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will deliver the keynote speech.
Ambassador of Egypt to Bangladesh Mahmoud Ezzat, Russian ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Nikolaev, Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh Lee Yun-young, and Sri Lankan high commissioner in Dhaka W A Sarath K Weragoda will be present at the programme.
