Bodies of missing tourist couple found

Bodies of the tourist couple who were missing from a boat capsize have been recovered from the Kaptai lake in Rangamati Sadar upazila on Saturday morning.

The dead have been identified as Alamgir Patwari, 32, son of Mofizul Islam from Comilla and his wife Irin Sultana Rina, 20, local police said.

The bodies were recovered around 7:30am in the morning, Rangamati Kotwali police Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Sohel Imtiaz told the Dhaka Tribune.

The couple were visiting Rina's father in Dampara, Chittagong before Alamgir was leaving for the United States, the OC said. “They later decided to tour Rangamati.”

The two got on a hired boat from Parjatanghat, a landing station of Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation, to cruise on the Kaptai lake on Wednesday when a storm struck.

The boat capsized and the couple remained missing since then, he added. The driver of the boat Biton Chakma was rescued on that day and hospitalised.

Three days after the capsize, the body of the couple have been found. The bodies were sent to Rangamati Sadar Hospital for post mortem, the OC said.
