The story of how a free man was kidnapped into slavery for twelve years has seized the best picture award at the Academy Award of 2014.
Directed by Steve McQueen, “12 Years A Slave” portrays slavery in the United States in 1800 and features Chiwetel Ejiofor, Bradd Pitt and Michael Fassbender.
Ejiofor stars as Solomon Northup, a New York state citizen, who was kidnapped and made to work on a plantation in the New Orleans in the 1800s.
“12 Years A Slave,” bagged the Oscar over “American Hustle,” “Captain Phillips,” “Dallas Buyers Club,” “Gravity,” “Nebraska” and other contenders on Monday morning.
It has been rated at a whooping average of 9 out of 10 by viewers all over the globe.
Best actor in lead role
Matthew McConaughey has been awarded with the best lead role in “Dallas Buyers Club” as an addict who smuggles much needed but illegal AIDS medication in the US.
He beat heavyweight contestants Christian Bale (in American Hustle), Bruce Dern (in Nebraska) and Leonardo DiCaprio (The Wolf of Wall Street) to claim the prize.
Directed by Jean-Marc Vallee “Dallas Buyers Club” is based on a true story and has been rated 7.8 by viewers all over the world.
Best actress in lead role
Cate Blanchett's role as a New York housewife struggling through crisis in her life in comedy “Blue Jasmine” has earned her the Oscar for lead female role.
She outweighed Amy Adams (in American Hustle), Sandra Bullock (in Gravity), Judi Dench (in Philomena) and Meryl Streep (in August: Osage County) for the award.
Directed by comedian Woody Allen, Blue Jasmine has been rated 8 by viewers all over the world.
