JMB militants at large 72hrs after escape

Law enforcers have yet to trace the whereabouts of the two missing condemned militants 72 hours after the daring attack on the prison van in Mymensingh.

Police have released mug-shots of the two militants of the banned Islamist outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh, hoping for further development for their capture.

The bounty of Tk5 lakh each remains on each of their heads and the bordering areas are on red alert to avert their escape into any neighbouring countries.

The law enforcers have learned further from the detained Zakaria and Anwar, who they claim to be affiliates of the militant outfit, but to no apparent result.

Tangail acting superintendent Hasibul Islam said the JMB were out on a mission for massive-scale destructive activities, the first of which was freeing the three militants.

On Sunday, a prison van was attacked in a daring move and a policeman was killed to snatch away three militants of the JMB from Trishal upazila, Mymensingh.

One of the militants, death row convict Rakib Hasan, was caught from Tangail hours into his flight and died in what law enforcers said was a gunfight the next day.

Two others Zakaria and Anwar were detained from Tangail on Sunday. Among them, police said Zakaria was one of the snatchers of the daring attack in Mymensingh.

However, two other militants, death row convict Salauddin Salehin and bomb specialist Mizan, are still at large.
