A day for radicals and revolutionists

Many publication houses have published books on different historical revolutionists as an initiative to inspire the new generation with the life-histories of the revolutionists.

Different publishers opined that though the revolutionists had sacrificed their lives for the emancipation of the people, people know little about their legacies. The publishers think that such books will help the new generation to determine their lifestyle for the betterment of the society.

“Biplobider Kotha Prokashoni” launched a stall in the “Amar Ekushey Book Fair” for the first time this year. They brought out a total of 30 books on different revolutionists, such as Khudiram, Pritilota, Ila Mitro, Shurjoshen, Jotin Dash, Hugo Chavez, Nelson Mandela and Che Guevara.

Sheikh Rofique, publisher of the house, told the Dhaka Tribune: “These people [revolutionists] fought for people’s rights. They always dreamt of an egalitarian society. With a view to spread the real story of their lives among the common people, I took the initiative.

“Most of these books are compilations of various articles or stories of the particular revolutionist, as it is very hard to get a clear concept about their lives and works from a single source.”

Apart from this publication, Shonghoti Prokashoni, Shongho Prokashon, Gono Prokashon, Prothoma, Rodela and Jatiya Shahitya Prokashoni also published books on revolutionists such as Lenin, Carl Marx, Shukanto, Shuvash Basu, Nolini Dash, Barun Roy, Anil Mukharjee and Moni singh.

Publishers said people were showing interest in these books, adding that the sales were also satisfactory.

Meanwhile, book lovers who attended the fair yesterday had to suffer a lot as Dhaka Metropolitan police withdrew the roadblock from the TSC to Doyel Chattar. The move was taken as roads adjacent to the central Shaheed Minar were closed for the preparation of the February 21 International Mother Language Day.

As there was no barricade on the road adjacent to the Bangla Academy, huge traffic congestion was created in front of the fair.

A total of 126 new books were released yesterday, including Muhammad Zafar Iqbal’s “Anyman” from Shomoy Prokashon, Syed Shamsul Haque’s “Hrithkolomer Tane” from Nandonik Prokashoni, Ahsan Habib’s “Kishor Omonibash” from Salma Book Depo, and Mohit Kamal’s “Adhare Alor Dheu” from Biddyaprokash.

Five new books were unveiled at the Nazrul Mancha of Bangla Academy.

A discussion titled “Antorjatik Porjaye Nozrul Chorcha Proshongge” was held at the central stage of the fair, where poet Mohammod Nurul Huda presented the key note paper.
