Bangladesh will be one of the richest countries in the world by 2041 by utilizing its resources.

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu made the statement while giving away the Commercially Important Person (CIP) cards among the recipients in the capital on Tuesday.

The minister awarded the status of ‘commercially important person’ to 54 businessmen in seven categories, in recognition of their outstanding performances in export and trade.

The economic progress of the country is constant despite facing global financial recession as well as hartal and blockade programmes of the BNP-led 19-party alliance, said Amu.

He said: “No single worker was sacked in the country during economic collapse although lakhs of workers were fired worldwide during the time.”

Citing the forecast of the noted economists of the world, the minister said Bangladesh will be turned into a middle income country before 2021 if the industrial progress runs as usual.

The government will take any decision on industrial and business matter with the consultation of the entrepreneurs, Amu said.

The economic foundation of the country is being cementing following the programmes led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he added.

The CIP card giving ceremony was held at BIAM auditorium in the capital organized by the Industries Ministry.
