The kite festival started at the beaches of Cox’s Bazar Friday afternoon with beautiful kites of various shapes and colours fluttering across the skies of the popular tourist destination.
Hasanul Haq Inu, the information minister, inaugurated the festival at the beach’s Laboni and Sugondha point at 4pm.
The event was organised by the Bangladesh Ghuri Federation.
Kites seen at the festival include popular shapes such as dragon, series, train, stand, and pocket kites.
A call to preserve the beach’s natural beauty, and communal harmony have been adopted as the central ideals of the festival’s slogan this year.
The festival will also introduce lion dance and zorbing ball into the mix.
The first day of the two-day long festival concludes with the launching of hot-air balloons. Hot air balloon launch, kite race and an award ceremony will mark the end of the festival.
Special guests who attended the festival include Li Jun, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, CEO of Bangladesh Tourism Board Akhruz Zaman Khan Kabir, Saimum Sarwar Kamal MP, Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Md Abdullah, Walton Deputy Director FM Iqbal Bin Anwar, Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Ruhul Amin, and Police Superintendent Azad Mia.
