A Tk200 crore defamation case has been filed against Bangla daily Jugantor for publishing a ‘false’ report on former ministers MK Alamgir and Dipu Moni.
Jugantar’s publisher Salma Islam MP, acting editor Saiful Alam, Chief Reporter Enam Ahmed and News Editor Abdur Rahman were made the defendants of the lawsuit.
Kazi Enamul Haque Shamim, a leader of Kochua unit Jubo League, filed the defamation case with the court of Chandpur Senior Judicial Magistrate on Monday.
According to case statement, the Bangla daily published a report titled “Reasons behind the dropping of heavyweight candidates” on January 13 and on January 17, it ran another “false” report claiming that wealth and money of the dropped ministers and state ministers had increased overnight.
“The Jugantor authority also added colour pictures of MK Alamgir and Dipu Moni with the articles, which affected the images of the former ministers,” said the plaintiff while filing the case.
The complainant said these “fabricated” and “imaginary” reports had defamed the former ministers and demanded Tk200 crore as compensation.
Former home minister MK Alamgir and former foreign minister Dr Dipu Moni respectively have won the Chandpur 1and Chandpur 3 polls in the 10th general elections. But, this time they were not included in the new cabinet.
